Ernesto is an enrolled member (citizen) of the Pascua Yaqui Nation of Arizona.
With a father and grandfather passing the family secrets of shoemaking, Ernesto started his career in footwear early in life. Blending traditional custom shoemaking craftsmanship with medical knowledge gained as a Board Certified Pedorthist, and working with the medical community, Ernesto built a national reputation as an innovator and has been awarded 4 patents.

Ernesto has lectured for years in the medical community, speaking internationally at numerous conventions, seminars and workshops, as well as teaching Pedorthics at Ball State University, William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, Midwestern University, and the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He served on the Board for Certification in Pedorthics from 1998 through 2005, and served as the Board's President for 2 terms. In 1990 along with his wife Isabel, started a comfort shoe store and a custom footwear business, growing it successfully, and selling it in 2007. He is also the founder and former owner of  Arizona AFO, Inc, a central fabrication laboratory, custom making his patented designs of ankle braces and footwear for patients of medical facilities nationally and for several countries around the world. His ankle brace designs are included in medical text books as a non-surgical alternative to treating specific foot and ankle conditions.

Ernesto, and his wife Isabel, along with one of their 3 daughters, Erica Faith, also a Certified Pedorthist, are now dedicated to Sole Nation Health, helping to prevent diabetic foot complications and amputation throughout Indian Country.
